Serena Cai

Serena Cai is an Australian-qualified solicitor with a primary practice focus on corporate and commercial law, corporate advisory, and cross-border transactions. She is admitted to practise before the High Court of Australia and the Supreme Court of New South Wales.

Serena advises Australian, Chinese, and international clients on a wide range of Australian corporate and transactional matters, including mergers and acquisitions, legal due diligence, corporate structuring and compliance, equity and asset transfers, financing arrangements, commercial contracts, property transactions and leasing, employment arrangements, and trust structures. Her practice is strongly transaction-driven, with a focus on delivering practical and commercially sound advice across complex and time-sensitive matters.

Her representative experience includes advising Chinese energy companies and global technology groups on Australian legal due diligence and regulatory compliance; assisting foreign-listed companies with acquisitions of Australian target entities with an aggregate transaction value of approximately AUD 125 million; advising on FIRB applications, corporate restructurings, and share and trust unit disposals; and providing ongoing legal advisory services for renewable energy and photovoltaic projects in Australia.

Serena regularly works alongside international law firms, Chinese law firms, accountants, and financial advisers, acting as Australian counsel on cross-border investments and transactions and supporting clients through multi-jurisdictional execution and regulatory processes.

Prior to relocating to Australia, Serena practised as a lawyer in China. This experience provides her with a strong understanding of Chinese commercial practices, transaction expectations, and cross-border deal dynamics, enabling her to communicate effectively with Chinese stakeholders and to bridge legal, commercial, and cultural considerations in cross-border matters.

She holds a Juris Doctor degree from the University of New South Wales and is recognised for her commercially pragmatic, detail-oriented, and solutions-focused approach, delivering clear and strategic Australian legal advice aligned with clients’ business objectives.
